The University of Minho is currently among the most prestigious institutions of higher education in Portugal, and has gradually come to assert itself on the international scene. Founded in 1973, the University of Minho has two major poles: the campus of Gualtar in Braga, and the campus of Azurém in Guimarães. Since its creation, the University has been at the centre of an innovative project functioning at different levels: pedagogical, research, organizational and social intervention. This Comprehensive University has, today, around 16,000 students in diverse study programmes, together with a very competent teaching and research staff, 1,000 with PhDs, as well as a quality technical and administrative structure. The prestigious educational courses and the quality of the research centres are internationally recognized. Interaction with diverse social agents, namely in the economic/production and cultural areas, is a distinctive mark for which this academy is proud.
